EXPANDER WITH SIDE-CHAIN INPUT

Use this technique to introduce rhythmic and timing characteristics to open chords, atmospherics and slow melodies. Use a tight percussive sound as trigger for the expander side-chain input.

PROCESS

  • Create a rhythm with a single percussion sound. For example

  • Insert your compressor in expander mode

  • Use the percussive rhythm as the source for your expander side-chain

  • The result is a rhythmic pulsing and gating effect.
